A Tool for Understanding — Not an Excuse For Bad Behavior
At the heart of Totem Astrology is hope: hope for a clearer understanding of yourself, hope for better understanding between partners and family members, and hope that there are people out there who are compatible with you just the way you are.
The four animal guides give us a shared language — something abstract we can point to when what is going on inside feels hard to name. When a Monkey is trying to get a Buffalo to climb a tree, we can talk about the clash without everything feeling so personal. The animals symbolize inner modes we all operate from, and they unite us in a vocabulary for compassion.
This is a tool for understanding each other and offering grace — grace born from comprehending our differences and appreciating the different ways people move through the world. It is not an excuse for bad behavior, and it is not a reason to accept other people’s bad behavior when harm is being done. Totem Astrology is meant to illuminate, not to imprison: we learn where we differ so we can show up for ourselves and for each other with more patience, not less accountability.
