The Three Sacred Roles
Seeker, Mage, and Royal — three distinct ways every Values Triangle animal relates to its core value.
The same archetypal structure repeats in every Values Triangle. Each triangle is a group of three animals that includes one Seeker, one Mage, and one Royal — three distinct ways of relating to that Triangle's Core Value. Each animal embodies their Core Value like a banner, just preferring to access it with their own unique perspective.
- The Seeker — In every triangle the Seeker is the one who pursues, acquires, and accumulates the Core Value, drawn to gather more of it or build it up themselves depending on their proclivities. For example, the Power and Harmony Seekers always seem to be in hot pursuit of their Core Value, chasing after it while the Seekers of Idealism and Security take a more active role in building their Core Value up directly, starting from where they're at. The Security Seeker sets to work placing the blocks of the Pyramid one after the other, and Idealism insists upon Freedom at every turn with a pure passion that dares somebody to stop or even try to slow it down. They are the Drivers of each pack, ensuring that things get done and empires get built, pushing for the team to get looked after and making sure everyone has somewhere to rest at the end of night.
- The Mage — Each Mage in their triangle understands their Core Value so intuitively that it becomes almost a plaything. Thus they are happy to work behind the scenes, wielding their Core Value subtly and deploying their strength in it with strategic intelligence. It's more of a game to them than the deadly seriousness with which the other two Roles treat their Core Values. At times the Mages might not even appear to be in possession of their Core Value at all, but this is just a surface-level appearance - they can access it with lightning quickness at any time. The Mages are as committed to their goals as anybody, they're just going to have a good time dancing across the boundaries and testing the limits all along the way. Playfulness is part the package, but they've got an excellent understanding of their Core Value whenever it truly counts.
- The Royal — These four animals embody their Core Value at the center of their very Being, serving as Role Models of them and wielding that Core Value with a natural air of authority. Because of this, others will follow their lead, so Spiderman rules apply: with great power comes great responsibility! Royals often assume they have priority, and this assumption works wonders in getting them a pass straight to the front of the line and directly to the center of the stage. The trick is in understating that it's not just a privilege to be out here in front; it's also hard work! The people are directly counting on you for direction, so that sense of knowing just what to do next better come in handy not only for you but also for all those watching you to see how things get done. The Royals are born leaders who make the best use of the spotlight for showcasing what's important.
What follows on the Values Triangles page is the canon for each triangle: the three animals and how each one lives its role as Seeker, Mage, or Royal.
Celestial & Earthly Realms
Of the twelve totem animals, four carry the Sacred Role of Royal — one in each Values Triangle. Together they form a double sovereignty over the zodiac: the Dragon and Phoenix as King and Queen of the Celestial Realm, and the Tiger and Bear as King and Queen of the Earthly Realm.
The Celestial Realm
The Dragon and Phoenix reign over the realm of ideas and ethereal thought structures — templates, proclamations, standards, and the architecture of how things ought to be held in mind before they are lived in the body. The Dragon guards power and the templates of excellence; the Phoenix proclaims security through beauty, display, and the visible promise that all is well.
The Earthly Realm
The Tiger and Bear reign over the realm of instincts and juicy, sensuous experience — conviction felt in the chest, abundance tasted at the table, ideals embodied in motion, and harmony curated in the flesh of daily life. The Tiger radiates inspiration as living proof; the Bear, as Royal of Harmony, is guardian and protector of peace, holding the atmosphere others settle into through generosity, refuge, and unhurried authority.
- The Dragon — Royal of Power & Prestige (Celestial King)
- The Phoenix — Royal of Stability & Security (Celestial Queen)
- The Tiger — Royal of Inspiration & Idealism (Earthly King)
- The Bear — Royal of Peace & Harmony (Earthly Queen)
Each Royal embodies its Core Value at the center of its being. Read how all twelve animals live their Sacred Roles on the Values Triangles page.
